Lika-liku pertarungan Mayweather dan Pacquiao sempat menyita perhatian para pecinta tinju dunia. Mereka awalnya direncanakan bentrok pada 5 Mei lalu, tapi pertandingan tersebut batal karena kedua kubu tak menemui kecocokan mengenai masalah tanggal dan pembagian keuntungan.
Sampai saat ini pun, keinginan Mayweather untuk bertemu Pacquaiao masih belum surut. "Saya ingin melawan Pacquiao. Akan tetapi, dia harus menjalani serangkaian tes sebelum bertarung," ucap petinju berjuluk Money itu seperti dikutip espn.com, Senin (7/5/2012).
Lantaran gagal menggelar megatarung dengan Pacquiao, Mayweather akhirnya memilih berhadapan dengan Cotto pada Minggu (6/5). Dalam partai yang berlangsung di MGM Grand itu, ia menang angka mutlak sekaligus mempertahankan rekor tak terkalahkan.
"Cotto adalah lawan yang tangguh. Dia datang untuk bertarung, bukan untuk sekadar bertahan," tuntas Mayweather.
